Montes de Cristo is a micro mill in San Juan de Naranjo, in the West Valley region of Costa Rica. Owned by Carmen Campos, the mill processes only her own farm’s coffee cherries, all of which are from Caturra variety trees. The farm is situated on sloping hills ranging in elevation from 1300-1650 meters. The Campos family is rightfully proud of their pioneering efforts in organic coffee growing and processing. They were also early proponents of the raised beds or “African Beds” that are now all the rage with the micro mills throughout Costa Rica. We serendipitously discovered Montes de Cristo while trying to find a way to import our Direct Trade La Mirella lots. Montes de Cristo had not sold all their coffee because of the tragic passing of Carmen’s husband, Elizondo Campos. They needed a home for their amazing coffee, and we were fortunate enough to purchase it. We are excited to be the only roaster in North America offering this delicious coffee.
