Guatemala El Socorro Maracaturra

Aromas of cedar and flowers open up into flavors of citrus, caramel, and spice.

Our passion is to showcase to our customers the best coffees in the world. We work tirelessly all year scouring cupping tables, meeting farmers, talking with importers and exporters, sitting on long flights and bumpy dirt roads to share with you the coffee we love. El Soccoro is a feather in our cap. Juan Diego De La Cerda and his father Juan Sr. farm the award winning El Soccoro y Annexos. The farm is located in the rare coffee producing area of Palencia. The Maracaturra varietal grown at El Soccoro is a cross between Maragogype and Caturra. The Maracaturra is one of the rare varietals—like Geisha and Pacamara—whose inherent flavors dominate any flavor of terroir.

The El Soccoro farm is Rain Forest Alliance Certified and is sustainable in its production practices, from water conservation to healthy working conditions for the coffee pickers. This is also the only farm I know of that uses hot water in coffee fermentation; the higher temperatures speed the process, ultimately conserving precious water.

El Soccoro y Annexos Maracaturra has been one of our favorites, a coffee of transparent beauty. For the last year it has been at the top of our wish list. After a heavy pursuit to secure Direct Trade partners in Guatemala, we are proud to showcase the very best to our customers.
