La Palma

Flavors of dark chocolate, cherry, and hazelnut
Our La Palma project’s goal is to identify, source, and purchase coffees from small scale, high quality coffee farmers from La Palma in El Salvador, and to add tangible quality of life value back to these producers. La Palma is a small village set amongst the tall mountains of Chalatenango, that creates a barrier between three countries: Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. Constant cold fronts and high altitudes in these mountains create the perfect conditions for some of the sweetest coffees we’ve tried. The tightly-knit community of La Palma makes working there very exciting, and visiting every small farmer is a unique adventure every time. We believe this cup reflects each farmer’s work throughout the year.
Our La Palma project coffee is now six years old! We have been working in Chalatenango, El Salvador in partnership with Caravela Coffee Exporters-Importers the whole time. We work to identify producers who have consistent quality over the years and tend to work with the same farmers every year. From our La Palma sourcing project, we build exportable lots based on the quality of the coffee. La Palma is an 86-87 point coffee, from there we build La Palma Reserva at 87.5+ to single producer micro-lots at 88+. We pay tier pricing in the same manner, the higher the quality the higher the price. For this lot of La Palma of 15,000 LBS, we paid $3.50 FOB at a time when the Fair Trade price was $1.20 and the C market was .98 cents.
