This coffee was produced by Zelelu Ararso as a separate washed lot at the Addis Katema Cooperative, where Zelelu is a member. The Addis Katema Cooperative is located in the district of Wenago in the Gedeo Zone within the State of Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' in Ethiopia. Zelelu Ararso is part of a single-producer project developed by the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU) and Olympia Coffee, in partnership with importer Royal Coffee. The project began in 2012 with a handful of producers under the YCFCU umbrella, and since then has grown in popularity and increased participation. These talented producers undertake a rigorous set of processing standards, receive regular farm visits from the Olympia and Royal teams, and share the goal of higher cup qualifications. In exchange for their work and dedication, they earn higher premiums for the sale of their individual, high quality lots. Olympia Coffee is proud to showcase more coffee from the growing numbers of small and talented producers who continue to work in the cooperative system in Ethiopia..
We all want to be part of the solution not part of the problem, right? Did you know that when you buy specialty coffee without the guarantee of a sustainable price for the farmer you are more than likely to be part of the problem? Coffee, from the start, was and still is a colonial product set on exploiting the people who grow it, all to satiate consumers in wealthier locations. Fair for All is our policy and procedures to ensure that the people who grow, process, export, import our coffee, as well as our staff and our customers benefit from the coffee. Learn more at fairforall.coffee. We purchased 30 bags at $5.00 FOB. When we purchased this coffee the C Market for coffee was at $1.20 and the Fair Trade price was at $1.40.
Olympia Coffee is an exemplar of the quality-obsessed slow-coffee approach.
