Ricardo Ariz SL-34 Natural
Flavors of passion fruit, guava, and wine
This micro lot of Natural Processed SL 34 varietal is a great example of our collaboration. SL 34 is a coffee varietal that is highly prized as one of the very best in coffee, but it’s rare to find it outside of Kenya, and to our knowledge, has never been processed as a Natural anywhere in the world. The story goes like this: sometime in the 1940s or 1950s, a farmer decided to plant a Kenyan coffee varietal in the mountains of El Salvador. It was a trans-Atlantic marriage of Kenyan coffee seeds and the Salvadoran ecosystem. This coffee gives us the rare opportunity to see the role that varietal plays on the characteristics of a coffee. While El Aguila's SL 34 has the sweetness of a classic Salvadoran coffee, it also packs the fruity power of its African counterpart, processed with the full effect of the sweet fruit it has been dried in. This coffee is totally unique, uncharted and rare - a prime example of the innovation we can achieve from our direct partnerships with forward thinking coffee growers. Ricardo is also rare breed in El Salvador, dedicated to the people who work at his farm as much as he is dedicated to the quality of his coffee. This makes him a pioneering partnership in our Fair For All efforts. Our coffee purchases from Ricardo are built on our agreement that all of his workers are paid a living wage as a part of creating this delicious coffee. Enjoy being among the first to experience Ricardo Ariz's SL 34 Natural!
