Kebeneti Peaberry Micro Lot 9

Kenya

Kebeneti Peaberry Micro Lot 9

Flavors of plum, orgeat, and concord grapes
This coffee lot originates from the Kebeneti washing station and represents the 9th batch of this season's harvest. Before being exported, the coffee undergoes a meticulous screening process using various filters to grade the beans based on their size. These particular beans are classified as "peaberrries," the smallest size in Kenya.

Peaberries are the result of an uncommon phenomenon: when a coffee cherry develops only one seed instead of the usual two. This rarity contributes to the distinct characteristics of these beans. Some coffee enthusiasts find that the single seed in a peaberry allows it to absorb more concentrated nutrients, yielding heightened sweetness and flavor.
Lighter Roast
This micro lot 9 from the Kebeniti factory is 12 x 60kg bags. We sourced this coffee in partnership with C. Dormans. We tasted this coffee first at their cupping lab in Nairobi Kenya scoring it 88 points. Two days later we made the journey to meet the producers directly and negotiate a fair price directly. We agreed upon $3.80 for this lot. We then hired Dormans to export and Royal Coffee to import. On arrival, we scored this coffee 88.5 points. We are proud to compensate our packaging team a Living Wage of $20.25-23.00 per hour and our roasting team a Living Wage of $21-26 per hour at our roastery.
