Third and Fifth place finish in the US Coffee Championships

Recently, three of our team had the immense honor of representing Olympia Coffee Roasting and the Pacific Northwest overall at the United States Coffee Championships in Long Beach, California. Co-owner Sam Schroeder, Retail Trainer Brady MacDonald, and Downtown Coffee Bar Manager Alex Choppin qualified for this prestigious event by competing at the regional level in October. There, Alex placed Second in Brewer's Cup, Brady placed Second in Barista Championship, and Sam was crowned Northwest Barista Champion. Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. will be opening its third café at 2824 Capitol Blvd. in Olympia’s historic Wildwood Building in early 2013.  Built in 1938, the Wildwood Building is located at the connection of four Olympia neighborhoods: South Capitol, Wildwood, Governor Stevens, and Carlyon in Olympia, Washington.     The new café will continue Olympia Coffee Roasting Co.’s commitment to the highest standards in coffee brewing, espresso preparation, and customer service. Coffee Lab

  Over the past several weeks we have been hard at work building a state-of-the-art espresso training lab and cupping room attached to our roastery.  In designing the Coffee Lab we wanted it to be bright and welcoming with the overall feel and bar flow to match our cafes.  Building it was a lesson in DIY wood working with an eye towards green building.  In construction we decided to use reclaimed materials whenever possible.  My father Dale Schroeder built the cabinets using reclaimed Doug Fir Flooring, the counter tops were sourced locally through Windfall Lumber, and the cupping table is...
